Ok, What’s All That Fuzz About Android 2.2 Froyo?

in Android

If you check my news page you’ll find many posts about upcoming Android 2.2, also known as Froyo. I’ve been talking so much about Froyo that I forgot to write what will we get from this update. Let’s start, shall we?

  1. Speed. Your Android phone will work 2x-5x faster! That is fast, people! I mean, my HTC Desire is very fast already (1GHz CPU inside). Can’t wait to see this baby in action after the update.
  2. Support for Adobe Flash 10.1. Full Adobe Flash support! Online streams, games… Watch some videos here.
  3. Wi-Fi tethering. Users can share connection with other devices – your phone becomes a Wi-Fi hotspot and any device should be able to connect to it.
  4. Apps can be installed on external storage. Finally – you can install your applications on your SD card.
  5. Better camera and camcorder. Framerate doubled from 10FPS to 20FPS. Also, camera now supports portrait orientation, zoom controls, access to exposure data, and a thumbnail utility.
  6. Faster browser. Faster loading of JavaScript heavy pages.
  7. Kernel Memory Management Boost. Faster app switching and, naturally, better performance in general.
  8. Voice dialing via Bluetooth. Very cool!
  9. And the list goes on and on. Seriously, Android crew added so many improvements (minor and major) and it would take me few hours to post them all. Check Android 2.2 highlights for more info.

I hope this post helps you to understand all this talk about Froyo. If you own HTC Desire, you have a great phone. After Froyo update, you’ll be the proud owner of the world’s best (and the fastest) phone!
